Anecdotal Stuff
Why I practice
In kendo, I see metaphors to many of the challenges and problems I face in my daily life and personal development. I learned early on that although the person in front of you changes several times throughout the practice, the only opponent you really have to beat is yourself - after doing that, everything else will follow. I practice kendo so I'll be able to do that, and become more comfortable with myself as a result.
Also, hitting people with sticks is entertaining.
How I started? I was randomly searching the web for sword history type things (Musashi, kenjutsu origins, etc), and randomly found the BCKF website. I found from there, a reference to Sunrise Coquitlam, as we were formerly known, and that very night visited. I watched that night, and planned to again just watch the next practice, but sensei shoved a shinai in my hands. The rest followed.
Biggest challenge in kendo
Letting go and letting things flow, letting the shinai do the work.
Biggest challenge in life
Letting go and letting things flow, letting myself do the work.
Thank Yous
