Matsukai's '07 Gasshuku

Congratulations on a success Gasshuku! :)

Hey guys, as you all know this Spring we're planning to hold Matsukai's 2nd Gasshuku once again at Camp Zajac ( http://www.zajacranch.com/ ).

The pricing has changed since last year, but we'll still be accommodated with same essentials. The only exception is that we'll have to rent the gymnasium since it won't be included in the basic rental.

Of course, the same goes for last year with the amount of people we need attending:

We need a minimum of 20 people

Here's the information we have so far about the upcoming Gasshuku:

Date

March 23 - 25 (Friday - Sunday)

We are allowed to arrive after 5:30pm on Friday (if we go by the deputy package).

Unfortunately, this date cannot be changed since no other time slot is available in March.

Location

Zajac Ranch: Mission, Stave Lake

This link gives you directions to the ranch: Click Me!

Accommodations, Meal Plan, Etc.

  • We'll be renting a dormitory (there are three dormiotries all together capable of managing 120 people).

  • We are allowed access to the Amphitheater and fire pit, hiking trails, and lakefront.

  • The meals we'll be provided with goes as follows:

Friday: Dinner, Evening snack

Saturday: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and evening snack

Sunday: Breakfast, Lunch

There is the option of adding more meals to the plan. The pricing goes as follows:

Breakfast

$ 7.50 pp/per meal

Lunch

$ 9.50 pp/per meal

Dinner

$ 12.50pp/per meal

Snack

$ 3.00pp/per snack

Pricing

NOTE: The pricing is based on the assumption that we have at least 20 people attending the Gasshuku

  • $59.00/pp (with a minimum two night stay)

  • Semi-private rooms are available at an additional charge of: $10 pp/per night

  • Private rooms are available at an additional charge of: $15 pp/ per night

  • We'll be adding a snack on Sunday before we leave ($3.00 per person)

Price of Gasshuku: About $150.75

The assumed prices will lower if we get more than 20 kendoka going.

If you would like to look at the rental costs or pricing of anything at Zajac Ranch, I sent out an e-mail to all of you with the attachment so go check your inboxes! If you did not receive it, tell me and I'll send it to you -Justine

Inviting Other Dojos

We won't know until after January 27th. Hopefully we'll get some good feedback, but if not, we can just have sexy pa- I mean, kendo practices to ourselves.

Transportation

Last year we car pooled. This year I say we take it a step further in helping our enviroment and walk- bogu and all.

I suggest packing lightly.

What to Bring

PACK LIGHTLY

Out of all the things you forget, you must NEVER, EVER forget to bring your bogu(for armoured people), shinai, and kendo gi...NEVER.

Anything else is replacable...say, for instance, a toothbrush. Just use paper towels instead (like how someone did it last time).

Forgetting your bokuto (or not owning one)...okay. Fine, use your shinai...but NEVER forget your shinai or kendo gi...NEVER.

Okay...anyways, these are the essentials you're suggested to bring:

* Shinai (This is not a suggestion)

* Kendo Gi (This is not a suggestion)

* Bokuto (Not a suggestion either)

* Toiletries (toothbrush, face towel, soap, etc. Getting together and sharing your shampoo/toothpaste isn't a bad idea either)

* Underwear (You need to shower)

* Deodorant (Unless you lost all your sweat glands, God forbid you forget this)

* Sleeping bag (NOTE: The ranch won't be providing us with blankets so you most certainly need blankets!)

* Pillow

* Water and water bottlesssss (emphasis on the 's')

* Extra shinais are not a bad idea

NOTE: No food (ESPECIALLY ANY FORM OF NUTS) is allowed in the dormitories. If you're hungry, the cafeteria is more than happy to supply you with snacks. Zajac Ranch is a nut free area so please refrain from any snacking.

Noticed how I didn't add any clothing as a suggestion? Tee hee, just kidding. You will need extra clothes since we will most likely be doing volunteer work for the ranch and dirtying your hakuma and gi is the last thing you want to do. I'm just trying to make a point to bring as less as possible. If anything, bring 1 set of clothing for activites other than kendo and 1 set of clothing for sleeping. You're in your Kendo Gi 90% of the time. Heck, might as well forget about pajamas and sleep in your gi since it'll save you the hassle of putting it on the in morning...again just kidding.

Fundraising

To lessen the cost of everything, doing some fundraising would not hurt... any ideas?:
